Curriculum

At Dee Point Primary School, we believe the child is the centre of everything we do, and we strive to provide all children with an engaging and ambitious curriculum which has been constructed to allow all pupils to acquire knowledge and skills in all subject areas. We want to drive all children to make the best possible progress from their starting points by providing them with a curriculum that is filled with opportunities to expand their experiences and give them the ‘cultural capital’ needed to succeed in achieving all of their future ambitions. Learning will be exciting and meaningful, with opportunities woven throughout curriculum that inspire and engage children daily, that focus on core PSHE values and instil a sense of community. It is hoped that children will feel inspired and motivated to follow their own curiosities, feeling confident in their own abilities, whilst learning transferable skills and consequently embedding life-long learning.

Intent(2).PNG

Our curriculum intends to:

  • Be progressive and aims to regularly revisit core skills to secure long term knowledge
  • Promote high aspirations for all pupils through its depth and breadth
  • Make strong connections that are transferrable between context
  • Promote independence and enjoyment from pupils in their learning and enable them to think critically
  • Promote childrens individuality and creativity
  • Nurture children to become emotionally literate and ensure they have a strong cultural capital
  • Provide a therapeutic approach to teaching and learning
  • Encourages children to immerse themselves in Local, National and International communities

Our Long Term and Medium Term plans show what we intend children to learn as they progress through our broad and balanced curriculum.

Implementation(1).PNG

Our implementation describes the way in which we deliver our intent consistently each day.

We aim to implement our intent by:

  • A dedication to whole school improvement and developing good subject knowledge from all
  • Clear curriculum leadership, which ensures strong planning and progression in all subjects
  • Having clear progression of knowledge and skill throughout subjects and key stages
  • Knowledge is built upon and consolidated to support retention and is clearly outlined on Knowledge Organisers
  • Teaching materials are selected to reflect the curriculum intent
  • Assessment systems across all subjects that inform planning and embed knowledge into long term memory
  • Having systems of monitoring, evaluation and reflection
  • Provide all children with a range of opportunities that develop, broaden and nurture.

Impact(1).PNG

Because learning is a change to long term memory, we understand that impact needs to be assessed regularly and frequently over the long term. At Dee Point, children are assessed during every lesson, and at key points throughout their learning journey.

We measure the impact of our curriculum by:

  • Assessing childrens knowledge through low-stakes quizzes and regular retrieval opportunities
  • National assessment data for Key Stage 1 and 2
  • All SEND and vulnerable groups make good progress from their starting points
  • Children show a wide range of ambitions, aspirations and interests and the belief that they can achieve these
  • Children are well-prepared for their next steps in life
  • Children are happy, well-rounded individuals who show care and consideration for the community around them and beyond.
