What We Do
As Learning Mentors in Dee Point we work with a range of children across school to support their social and emotional needs enabling them to access their learning.
We work one to one or with small groups of children in the afternoons and then support them during their learning in the mornings.
We also deliver PSHE lessons which cover subjects like keeping yourself safe, understanding their own mental health, wellbeing and emotional literacy. This is a very important aspect of children’s learning as it helps them with their emotional development. We are currently working in year 1 and 2 on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon covering PPA but classes and year groups will change each term. If you have any questions please feel free to come and ask us.
Parents and Communication
Another important part of our role is building relationships with parents. It is important to us that parents feel they have a forum and opportunity to come and chat with us about any concerns or queries that they have, or even just the chance to talk. We are around and about both mornings and afternoons to see children in and out of school which gives parents an opportunity to catch us if they need us!
We also run a coffee morning every Thursday 9-10am in the community room (opposite the small hall) which is an open invitation for all parents/carers to come along and have a chat. This half term it has been really successful with many people joining us! Please feel free to drop in, the more the merrier!
Miss Peach has been running a parenting course along with our Family Support Officer, Mrs Livingstone. This has proved to be very helpful to parents who have already attended so if you would like further information or would be interested in joining us please come and let one of us know. Our next course will start in January 2017.
Extra Curricular Support
On a Tuesday afterschool we run a meditation club. This gives children the opportunity to come along to learn and develop calming exercises which they can then use at home and in the classroom to support their learning and wellbeing. Club letters go out at the beginning of each term so if you think your child would be interested or it would be helpful please sign up.
